Similar to Big Bluestem, but has creeping rhizomes. Grows best on sandy soil textures and also somewhat on loamy textures. Palatable and nutritious. Important species for range, watershed and wildlife habitat improvement and for revegetation of disturbed sites in sandy soils. Minimum precip. is 12 – 14 inches. Plant in late summer ½ – ¾ inch deep. 113,000 seeds/lb.
