Perennial, 1 – 2 ft. tall, with very showy orange-red sometimes yellow flowers. Grows in clumps along roadways, abandoned fields and other open areas throughout most of the US. Grows best on sandy, loamy or rocky soils, with moderate water requirements. Valuable for butterfly habitat, especially Monarchs. Has some poisonous properties. Grows easily from seed. Plant fall or spring ¼ inch deep. 70,000 seeds/lb.
