Small to medium, 1 – 2½ ft. tall, evergreen to semi-deciduous shrub distributed throughout much of the arid/semi-arid western US. Adapted to all soil textures, commonly found on well drained often rocky soils on dry slopes, flats, valley bottoms and ridges from 1,500 – 7,500 ft. Excellent tolerance to salt and alkali. Very palatable forage for large wildlife species and livestock especially on winter ranges. Also very important species for many smaller wildlife species for food and cover. Important species for range and wildlife habitat improvement on adapted sites which are often very dry and harsh. Also important native shrub for restoration of disturbed sites. Like with Fourwing Saltbrush, it is important to obtain seed from compatible sources. Minimum precip. is 5 – 8 inches. Plant in fall ½ inch deep. 65,000 seeds/lb.
