Medium to large, 5 – 10 ft. tall, shrub distributed throughout the warm arid southwest deserts below 4,500 ft. elevation and into the cold semi-arid deserts of Utah and Nevada. Grows on alkaline clay flats, valley bottoms and river drainages. Largest of the saltbrushes. Very palatable browse to both livestock and wildlife. Also important food and cover for birds and small mammals. Minimum precip. is 5 – 8 inches. Plant in fall ¼ inch deep. 800,000 seeds/lb.
