Long-lived, perennial, cool-season, rhizomatous, sod-forming, grass-like sedge. Water-obligate and does best on moist to wet, fine to medium textured soils. Found in swamps, marshes, bogs, ponds and lake and stream edges circumboreal from sea level to 12,000 ft. elev. Very good forage and habitat for wildlife and fair to good forage for livestock. Very valuable species for riparian and wetland restoration, soil stabilization and wildlife forage and habitat. Plant ¼ – ½ inch deep in fall or spring. 500,000 seeds/lb.
