Medium height, 1 – 2 ft. tall, short-lived, very drought-tolerant, cool-season bunchgrass.  Adapted to all soil textures, deep to shallow, very dry to moist.  Good tolerance to salt, alkali and lime.  Grows on desert flats to steep mountain slopes.  Fair to good palatability when green and for standing winter forage.  Very valuable native species for mining and related soil disturbing activities revegetation, and range and wildlife habitat improvement on very dry, harsh sites that the species is well adapted to.  Minimum precip. is 5 – 6 inches.  Plant in fall ¼ – ½ inch deep.  220,000 seeds/lb.
