Perennial, drought-deciduous, shrub, 2 – 5 ft. tall, with showy yellow sunflower-like flowers. Grows in the desert southwest part of the US on dry, rocky, gravelly slopes and mesas and flats on all soil textures from 500 to 3,000 ft. elev. Often forms extensive monospecific stands. Good browse species for some wildlife but not for livestock. Very attractive for desert landscaping. Also valuable for restoration of disturbed land on its native habitats. Plant in fall ΒΌ inch deep. 375,000 seeds/lb.
