Perennial, 2 – 6 ft. tall. Blooms in summer with spikes of orchid/pink flowers. Adapted to much of North America from low to high elevations. Grows best, but not limited to, moist, rich, loamy soil, on burns, open woods, along streams, seeps, roadsides and ditches. Has aggressive spreading rhizomes. Moderate moisture requirements. Likes full-sun. Plant fall or spring 1/8 inch deep. 8,500,000 seeds/lb.
