Perennial, cool-season bunchgrass, 1 – 3 ft. tall, wetland species growing in moist soils of wetland type habitats from ocean beaches to sub-alpine elevations. Moderately tolerant to saline, alkali, low fertility, and seasonally saturated soils. Grows on most soil textures. Palatability is rated from low to moderate. Because of its high seedling vigor, wide soil tolerance, and rapid development it is often used as a quick cover for soil stabilization on wet, dry and saline sites. Plant in spring or fall ½ inch deep. 60,000 seeds/lb.
