Perennial, 2 – 4 ft. tall, somewhat robust, cool-season, common bunchgrass, sometimes with short rhizomes. Found in the western US often on dry slopes, steep rocky mountain sides to gently sloping benches, saddles and plateaus on all textured soils. Moderately saline, alkali, and acidic condition tolerant. Low moisture requirement and drought-tolerant. Found on sites between 4,000-10,000 ft. elevation. Fair to good forage for livestock and wildlife and good habitat for some species of wildlife. Minimum precip. requirement is 8 inches.  Plant in fall or spring ¼ – ½ inch deep. 255,000 seeds/lb.
