Medium, 2 – 3 ft. tall, short-lived, perennial, cool-season bunchgrass.  Adapted to a wide variety of soil conditions but does best on medium to fine textures.  Easily established, rapid developing and vigorous.  Fair tolerance to saline and acidic soils.  Palatable when growing, nutritious and tolerant to grazing.  Not especially cold-hardy. Used in pasture mixtures, for hay and erosion control and turf.  Minimum precip. is 12 – 14 inches.  Plant fall or spring ½ – ¾ inch deep.

Named Releases: Many: Tetraploid varieties are best suited for pasture and range applications and Diploid varieties are best used in turf applications.
