Medium height, 2 – 3 ft. tall, biennial, nitrogen-fixing, legume. Adapted to all soil textures. Tolerant to strongly alkaline, saline and weakly acidic soils. Cold and drought- tolerant. Easily established and will reseed itself if competition is not tremendous. Generally considered only poor to fair forage with low palatability. Contains coumarin, a blood anticoagulant and animals foraging exclusively on pure stands may be killed. Used for temporary pastures, hay and silage crops. Also for quick cover on disturbed sites and in range improvement projects. Minimum precip. is 8 – 10 inches. Plant ¼ – ¾ inch deep. 260,000 seeds/lb.
