Tall, 5 – 8 ft., long-lived, cool-season, rhizomatous, sod-forming grass.  Grows on all soil textures but does best on loamy to clay textures. Very tolerant to flooding.  Thrives on poorly drained wetlands and also on irrigated up-lands. Fair tolerance to salt, alkali and acid in soils.  Produces abundant forage.  Used for pasture, hay silage, soil erosion control on ponds and waterways and for wildlife food and cover.  Minimum precip. is 16 – 18 inches.  Plant fall or spring ¼ – ½ inch deep. 538,000 seed/lb.
