Short, long-lived, prostrate, stoloniferous, nitrogen-fixing legume native to Europe. Best adapted to moist, cool, well-drained, clay to silty loam soils. Tolerant of weak acid and alkaline soils. Considered the most important pasture legume often planted with pasture grasses for a premier forage combination for intensive grazing and hay forage. Very palatable and nutritious for livestock and wildlife. Important species in hay, pasture and lawn mixtures. Also useful for erosion control on roadsides, stream banks, and mine sites. Minimum precip. is 18 – 25 inches. Plant fall or spring ¼ – ½ inch deep. 850,000 seeds/lb.
