Agrostis gigantea, Redtop
(old nomenclature: Agrostis alba) (Introduced)
Medium to tall, perennial, strongly rhizomatous, sod-forming, cool-season grass. Adapted to most soil textures but does best on clay-loam and loamy soils. Thrives best on moist to semi-wet soils. Tolerant of moderately acidic, nutritionally poor soils, frequent flooding, and some salinity. Important for pasture and meadows because of good palatability and production. Also useful for hay, lawns, golf courses, wet waterways and disturbed site reclamation. Minimum precip. is 20 inches. Plant fall or spring ¼ inch deep. 4,990,000 seeds/lb.
Named Release: ‘Streaker’ Released in 1982 by Jacklin and Loft companies. Selected for uniformity, vigor, seed yield. Intended use is for over seeding of dormant warm season grasses, low maintenance turf, reclamation and pasture.
