Medium, 2½ – 6½ ft. tall, evergreen shrub. Long-lived, drought-tolerant, found in the desert areas of southern CA, NV, UT and AZ. Usually grows on medium to coarse textured, well drained soils on valley bottoms, ridges and slopes. Usually somewhat fire-tolerant and will resprout. Valuable, palatable, nutritious forage, especially in fall and winter for wildlife and livestock. Excellent food and cover for many species of wildlife.  Establishes and persists on harsh sites. Used for range and wildlife habitat improvement and revegetation of disturbed sites. Minimum precip. is 6 – 8 inches. Plant in fall ½ – 1 inch deep. 21,000 seeds/lb.
