Perennial, 1 – 2 ft. tall, rhizomatous forb. Purple flowers bloom in the summer. Adapted to the Great Basin, southwest deserts and Great Plains. Usually found on open sandy areas, dry rocky hillsides and dry prairies, low to mid-elevations. Drought-tolerant. Tolerant to partial-shade or full-sun. Used in wildflower mixes and for erosion control. Plant fall or spring ¼ – ½ inch deep. 490,000 seeds/lb.
