Small, 1 – 2 ft. tall, herbaceous, rhizomatous, half-shrub widely distributed throughout much of the western US. Adapted to a variety of soils, climates and elevations. Usually resprouts after fire. Valuable for food and cover for many species of wildlife. Fair palatability. Used for soil stabilization on harsh disturbed sites, disturbed land restoration and for native landscaping. Minimum precip. is 10 – 14 inches. Plant fall or spring on top of rough surface to 1/16 inch deep. 4,000,000 seeds/lb.
