Short, 2 – 5 inches tall, mat-forming, evergreen shrub found mainly in eastern Utah and western Colorado from 4,000 – 7,000 ft. elevation. Grows on alkaline, clay soils on dry slopes, flats and ridges. Very alkali and salt-tolerant. Fair forage. Used for revegetation of adapted disturbed sites. Minimum precip. is 5 – 8 inches, Plant in fall ¼ inch deep. 100,000 seeds/lb.
