Short, ½ – 1 ft. tall, semi-prostrate, evergreen shrub found in eastern Utah, western Colorado and northern New Mexico and Arizona from 4,000 – 7,000 ft. elevation. Grows on alkaline clay flats, rocky slopes and ridges. Very alkali and salt-tolerant. Fair to good forage. Used for revegetation of adapted disturbed sites. Minimum precip. is 6 – 10 inches. Plant in fall ¼ – ½ inch deep. 30,000 seeds/lb.
