Perennial, 1½ – 2½ ft. tall. Sunflower-like yellow flowers bloom in spring. Distributed throughout the Intermountain and Northwest regions from 1,000 to 9,000 ft. elevations. Grows best on medium to fine, well drained soils. Week tolerance to alkali, salt and acid. Very drought-tolerant and winter-hardy. Likes full to partial sun. Very palatable to livestock and wildlife when green. Very tolerant to grazing and trampling. Very important native forb for many species of wildlife for food and cover. Used for range and wildlife habitat improvement, disturbed-land restoration and roadside and related beautification. Minimum precip. is 10 – 14 inches. Plant in fall ½ inch deep. 55,000 seeds/lb.
