Long-lived, perennial, cool-season, rhizomatous sod-forming grass up to 5 ft. tall. Does best on fine to moderate texture moist soils. Grows in meadows, open forests, swamps, bogs, marshes, ditches and along stream and lake edges. Good forage for wildlife and livestock and good habitat for wildlife. Moderately flood tolerant, moderate moisture requirements, moderately alkali and acidic tolerant. Valuable for wetland and riparian restoration. Plant spring or fall ¼ inch deep. 2,750,000 seeds/lb.
Named Release:‘Sourdough’ (Cultivar) Was developed by the Alaska Experiment Station for revegetation of adapted areas. Released in 1976.
