Description
Carex nebraskensis,
Nebraska Sedge (Native)
Perennial, 1 – 2 ft. tall, strongly rhizomatous, water-obligate sedge found from low valley to alpine elevations in wet meadows, marshes, streams, ditches, seeps, ponds and lakes throughout the western US. It often forms dense stands and is the dominant species of a wetland community. Adapted to all soil textures, good alkali tolerance and moderate acidic and saline tolerant. Tolerates long periods of standing water and also can be more tolerant of drought than many other sedge species. Very good palatable forage for wildlife and livestock and provides good wildlife habitat. Very valuable species for riparian and wetland wildlife habitat restoration. Seed is often less expensive and more readily available than other sedge species. Plant in spring or fall ¼ – ½ inch deep. 500,000 seeds/lb.
