Short-lived, cool-season, rhizomatous, perennial wetland grass species, 2 – 4 ft. tall. Occurs naturally in most wetland type habitats in the western ¼ of the US on poorly drained sands, loams and clays with acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline PH. Very tolerant of standing water. Not drought or saline tolerant. Easy to establish and persists on adapted sites. Fair to good forage for wildlife and livestock. Valuable for wetland restoration projects. Plant in spring or fall ¼ inch deep. 200,000 seeds/lb.
