Perennial, 2 – 3 ft. tall, long-lived, winter-hardy, drought-tolerant, cool-season, bunchgrass. Does best on deep soils. Very alkali and salt tolerant. Good palatability. Especially useful for fall and winter standing forage. Very deep root system, up to 10 – 14 feet. Used for range and pasture improvement. Minimum precip. is 12 – 14 inches. Plant fall or spring ½ inch deep. 58,000 seeds/lb.
Named Release: ‘Prairieland’ (Cultivar) Released from a Russian origin accession in 1976. Selected for cold-tolerance, high forage yield, salt-tolerance and resistance to diseases.
