Perennial, 1 – 2 ft. tall, warm-season bunchgrass. Grows on a variety of soils but does best on loamy textures. Good palatability. Grows on semi-dry meadows, parks and flats in the upper woodland and ponderosa pine zone of the Southwest Intermountain region. Used for erosion control and range and wildlife habitat improvement. Minimum precip. is 14 – 16 inches. Plant spring/summer ¼ – ½ inch deep. 1,600,000 seeds/lb.
Named Releases ‘El Vado’ (Cultivar) Released in 1973 by the Los Lunas PMC and CO AES. Origin is an ecotype from west of Park View, NM. Used in restoration of adapted sites as a superior tested cultivar.
