Perennial, 2 – 4 ft. tall. Blooms in summer but has no petals but a cone shaped head covered with green sepals that turn black in fall. Rhizomatous plant that prefers moist, medium to fine textured soils and full-sun to partial-shade. Grows in native range from 7,000 – 10,000 ft. elevation. Provides good habitat for wildlife and is also used for soil stabilization and beautification. Plant in fall or spring 1/8 – ½ inch deep. 350,000 seeds/lb.
