Perennial, 1½ – 2½ ft. tall. Blooms in late spring with large bright sunflower-like flowers. Grows native from mid to sub-alpine elevations in adapted ranges. Prefers fine to medium textures sometimes gravelly soils. Medium water requirements, drought and cold-tolerant and likes full-sun. Generally low in palatability for livestock but is used by wildlife for both forage and cover. Plant in fall ¼ – ½ inch deep.
