Perennial, 1 – 2 ft. tall,  rhizomatous forb with lavender flowers that bloom in the fall. Very variable species adapted to various soils, elevation and precip. zones from valley floor to alpine elevations, on dry to moist various textured soils. Often found wild on roadsides, ditch banks, open fields, dry or semi-wet meadows and on disturbed sites. Moderately drought-tolerant, cold-tolerant. Used for disturbed land restoration and in wildflower plantings. Plant in fall 1/8 – ¼ inch deep. 2,650,000 seeds/lb.
