Medium to tall, 3 – 4 ft., short-lived, cool-season bunchgrass (with tillers). Common species usually on mesic sites in the more northern latitudes of the central and western north America. Adapted to all soil textures but does best on medium textures. Good salt-tolerance, low drought-tolerance. Palatable and nutritious. Grows well on sandy soils with adequate moisture. Vigorous seedlings that establish quickly. Minimum precip. is 12 inches. Plant fall or spring ¼ – ½ inch deep. 106,000 seeds/lb.
