Robust, up to 5 ft. tall, perennial, cool-season bunchgrass very common and widely distributed. Does well on all soil textures and is moderately acidic, alkali and saline tolerant. Low moisture requirements and is drought and cold-tolerant. Grows from near sea level in California to Alpine elevations on soils with sufficient moisture, often in forest locations. Rated as fair to good forage (but coarse texture) for wildlife and livestock. Good wildlife habitat grass. Very important in restoration projects in adapted areas. Minimum precip. is 16 inches. Plant spring or fall ¼ – ½ inch deep. 134,000 seeds/lb.

Named Releases:Arlington-Ecotype’ (Cultivar) Originated from near Arlington, WA. Establishes easily, short-lived. Good for quick erosion control and soil cover.

‘Elkton-Ecotype’ from Sutherlin OR at about 400 ft. elevation. Establishes rapidly but short-lived; valuable for quick soil cover on disturbed sites.
