Medium, 3 – 6 ft. tall, semi-evergreen shrub found in the southwest US from 3,000 – 8,500 ft. elevation. Grows on well-drained, medium to coarse textured, often rocky or gravelly slopes, alluvials, gullies and roadsides. Tolerant to weak saline and moderate alkali soils. Generally considered fair forage, most commonly used in the winter. Has spreading rhizomes. Used for native landscaping, wildlife habitat improvement and reclamation. Minimum precip. is 7 – 10 inches,. Plant fall or spring ¼ – ½ inch deep. 500,000 seed/lb.
