Medium, 3-5 ft. tall, deciduous shrub found throughout much of the western US from 2,500-9,500 ft. elevation. Usually found on dry to moist drainages, open slopes and ridges. Palatability is usually rated as fair being best for wildlife. Berries are excellent food for birds and small mammals. Used for wildlife habitat, reclamation and native landscaping. Minimum precip is 14-16 inches. Plant in fall 1/8 to ¼ inch deep. 350,000 seeds lb.
