Small, 1 – 3 ft. tall, shrub found in the warm, arid-desert southwest on alkaline flats, along washes and roadsides, and the cold semi-arid deserts of Utah and Nevada. Very palatable forage to wildlife and livestock. Also important food and cover for birds and small mammals and reptiles.  Minimum precip. is 5 – 8 inches. Plant in fall ¼ – ½ inch deep. 800,000 seeds/lb.
